Fit to Print is a puzzly tile-laying game about breaking news, designed by Peter McPherson and set in a charming woodland world created by Ian O’Toole!
Thistleville is the world’s most bustling little town — it’s a challenge to keep up with everything going on, from who took home first prize for their baked goods at the community fair to who has been digging in Mrs. Brambleberry’s carrot patch.
As an editor at one of the local newspapers, your job is to tell their stories!
The front page is due in just a few hours and you have no time for perfection. Grab the big stories before the other papers get a chance, and make sure you get the right photos too. A newspaper is a business, so the money has to come from somewhere — don’t forget the ads! After you’ve picked out a combination of stories, photos, and ads, it’s time to lay out the front page. Did you take enough tiles to fill the paper, but not so many that things have to be cut? Over the course of three hectic days, your skills will be tested as you compete to be the most newsworthy editor!
Fit to Print features 130+ unique newspaper tiles - articles, photographs, advertisements, and centerpieces - each with individual attributes and stunning artwork, to make each front page one-of-a-kind!
Fit to Print comes with a variety of Breaking News scoring cards and Character Cards allowing you to mix and match new challenges each and every time you play! There are 1000+ unique game setups to explore!
The game is designed by Peter McPherson - designer of titles such as the 2019 hit Tiny Towns, and recent release Wormholes! The solo mode design was led by Shawn Stankewich - designer of the International Gamers Awards (IGA) 2022 Solo Award winning Cascadia solo mode. It is developed and directed by the creative team behind Calico, Cascadia, and Verdant - Molly Johnson, Robert Melvin, Shawn Stankewich, and Dylan Mangini. The game illustrations and graphic design are by Ian O'Toole who has designed and illustrated countless gorgeous board games including some of the most intricate and beautiful in the industry - Rococo: Deluxe Edition, Lisboa, and Voidfall.
Kickstarter backers of Fit to Print receive the Game Breaking News Mini-Expansion - a set of 2 unique double-sided Centerpiece tiles and 9 unique Breaking News cards absolutely FREE! With the addition of these tiles and cards, players will have new ways to play that bend and break the rules of play, creating new spatial challenges and adding completely new gameplay elements! These promo tiles and cards are a special THANK YOU to all backers for being early supporters and will not be included with future copies of the game!
Fit to Print can be played solo! The solo mode is easy to set up and closely simulates the multiplayer experience. It is a quick and engaging experience that is simple to learn and does not require the upkeep of an AI player, while still offering interesting puzzly choices and challenging thresholds to overcome!
Fit to Print also features a unique puzzle mode! In puzzle mode, you are given a defined set of tiles and you must find the best layout for your paper. Since not all tiles will fit, you will have to make tough decisions about which ones will synergize best on your Front Page Board. Which articles, ads, and photos will you use to maximize your score? Puzzle mode can be played as a challenging timed experience, or a totally relaxed zen experience where you can take as much time as you like to work through the puzzle. Grab a cup of your favorite warm beverage, get cozy, and get puzzling!
Although the main game mode of Fit to Print is a super fun and frantic real-time game experience, we know that real-time games aren’t everyone’s cup of tea. That’s why we created the Turn-based Mode! This version of Fit to Print will feel very familiar to fans of our previous puzzly games! In Turn-based Mode, the frantic real-time tile grabbing is replaced by a simple turn-based tile draft from a central pool - maintaining all of the competitive tension and spatial puzzling of the real-time mode while making tile choices even more strategic and interactive! Players must still be careful to keep pace with their rival editors, though, since the first player to fill their Front Page Board and ‘hit print’ first will trigger the end of the game!
Fit to Print also has a Family Variant! If you are playing with children, those new to gaming, or you just want to make the puzzle and rules a little simpler, you can play with the included Family Variant rules. These adjusted rules streamline the game so that anyone can get in on the action!
Want to really take your Fit to Print experience to the next level and experience the hustle-bustle of a real newsroom!? Then try out Newsroom Mode! Designed for 4-12 players, this team-based mode turns Fit to Print into the ultimate spatial puzzle party/convention game! In teams of two (a reporter and an editor) players each take on a role and play simultaneously. The reporter gathers newspaper tiles from one location, then carries them back a few at a time on their 3D desk for the layout editor to carefully arrange. Players can communicate openly by shouting to one another which articles, photos, and ads they need to complete the perfect front page!
With this range of gameplay modes, Fit to Print can be tuned to offer different game experiences to different players, depending on experience level and preferences! With support for up to 12 players and games that take just 15-30 minutes, Fit to Print will fit into every game night!
